During 2007/8 Birmingham Citizens Advices dealt with nearly 58,000 people overall. Users of our service were provided with active assistance to renegotiate £60 million of debt.
Almost £5.5 million of additional benefits are estimated to have been claimed with the service's active assistance and nearly £2.5 million of additional benefit entitlement referred through to specialist benefits caseworkers. Nearly £4 million of debts have been renegotiated directly with creditors by the open door service. Over £60 million of debt was presented in total, with nearly £55 million referred to the speciallist debt caseworkers due to the complexity of the issues involved.
